What type of flowers would be pretty in a flowerbed with light purple pansies? They are the only flowers that appear to have survived the winter months and I haven't a clue as to what else to fill it in with. Something that will do good this summer and I won't have to wait to see bloom next year? I'm not a patient gardener.

Annuals are your best (and cheapest) way to go - zinnias, marigolds, phlox, and petunias can't be beat. You'll get a lot of enjoyment from only a few plants. As far as perennials go, lantana is an excellent choice - comes back every year. It does spread quite a bit, so you'd need to allow plenty (4-5 ft. diameter) of space for each plant. All of these plants come in a multitude of colors, so you can mix or match.
