If you can get the recipe for CHINES NOODLE MIXED GREEN SALAD AND make plain EGG salad HALF sandwiches, with finger meats and small "fruit kebobs" on the side, this looks great, is different, and isn't too expensive, if not too many guests.
The kebobs serve as both palate stimulators AND for tiny desserts, depending upon when a person eats a couple of them. They're made with 4" long cocktail plastic picks, pineapple chunks, FROZEN Manderin Orange slices, and unpeeled apple chuncks previously dipped in apple juice to preserve color?, with a whole Marachino cherry on the each end and one in middle if room. Make them all the same and place them near a spread of triangle folded colored paper napkins in fan spray shape on the table. Get your fun table cloths and LARGE bright colored plastic bowls?(dollar store) to cheer up the table in lieu of formality, unless NOT informal gathering?
Also, the right music is important, but not too loud or too soft, unless someone is willing to entertain the group with guitar and or piano or violin music for the experience?
Hope this helps? Good luck and may God bless your gathering and you. : )

This a great idea for getting people to mix and mingle. Get a pack of index cards, write the names of famous people and/or characters on them. Place them, face down on a table by the door. As people come in, tape a card to each persons back (name side out). Then they have to ask others yes or no questions about who they have, such as, "Am I a real person?" Am I on T.V.? and so on and so on. You can make a rule, that you can't ask the same person twice. Make it fun and the first person who guesses correctly, wins a prize.

We do a lot of get togethers at church and I am in charge of our bi-monthly "agape Feast.. We have had a Speg. Feed, a Baked Potato Bar, Shredded Pork/Beef/Chicken (crockpot), Mexican (burritos, tacos, tostadas), Best Home-made Chili, mac-n-cheese contests.. Crockpot Cooking for large groups are GREAT- esp. in the summer time to keep the heat out of the house.. Check out www.recipezaar.com- I have found a lot of GREAT recipes on that site..
As far as games, you could have everyone make up 5 charades and put em' in a hat?? Or have you ever played Cranium or Battle of Catan (looks boring- but is GREAT fun) http://www.boardgameratings.com/game/34/
Hope this helps or gives you something to run with.. :)
