Sporting Group

Breeds in this group are bred to work closely with people and are characterized by their responsive natures and high degree of intelligence. These dogs are naturally active and alert and known for their instincts and ability in the water and woods. These breeds excel at tracking game, indicating targets and retrieving, and are usually associated with hunting and field work. Examples of dogs that make up the sporting group include Spaniels, Setters, Retrievers, Poodles and Pointers. The dogs require lots of regular physical and mental exercise to stay healthy.
