If you are hiring movers, be sure to ask them what their insurance covers before packing anything yourself. Quite often, they will only cover boxes that they have packed. If you are required to pack the boxes, only put a number on the outside of the box and whether or not the contents are fragile. Then make a list of the contents that each number correlates to. This will help ensure that valuable items don't end up missing.
