Wildlife: What Is It?

Most of my adult life I was in the rat race. Now that I am retired it gives me great joy to slow down and look at things closely and to really appreciate the beauty of nature even in my own backyard.

I have submitted two photos, first one for you to guess and second will give you the answer.

I've always called them Mosquito Hawks. :-) They catch mosquitoes, so we were told when we wanted to catch one and play with it. Mother wouldn't let us bother them as their wings are so delicate, and we might not handle them gently enough.

First picture looks very much like one of the creatures from an alien planet. Interesting!
