Gordi (Bernese Mountain Dog/Great Pyrenees)
Gordi (Bernese Mountain Dog/Great Pyrenees)
Gordi is one year old. He is a Bernese Mountain Dog/Great Pyrenees mix. I purchased Gordi from a breeder and my husband and I drove to Missouri and picked him up the day he turned eight weeks old.

He likes to play with my other dogs, dig holes, chew on bones and lay on the sofa with us. Gordi has a really wonderful personality. He is very sweet and goofy. He is now 77 lbs. of pure love and he thinks he's a lap dog! When we are on the sofa, Gordi will jump up and lay upside down with his tongue hanging out. He has a dominant nature though and one of the things he does to the other dogs is, he will put his big paw on their head if they are on the floor. The other dogs don't seem to mind and it's just really cute to see Gordi with his 'arm' around the other dog's neck.

My husband and I absolutely love our Great Pyrenees / Bernese! He is 8 months old (we got him at 7 months) and 89 lbs. He is constantly on watch even when he is playing.

I had a question and I am not sure if anyone can answer it. Bernese are not known for their longevity and I was wondering if there was enough information to come up with a average lifespan. If anyone has an idea i would like to no. Thanks! Kathryn

Here is Simba at 13 months. He still looks like so many here, but like no other dog. He attracts attention everywhere he goes. Yes, Simba also likes to bark, like many others here.

This is our dog Cooper - he turns one year in about a week and he weighs 90 pounds. He is absolutely adorable and wonderful to be around. He loves people and other dogs and is quite easily the friendliest dog I've ever known. It's great to see other Bernese/Pyrenees mixes out there!

I want to join you folks with the Great Pyranees/ Bernese Mtn. Dog mix!!! Meet Loosey G (after Loosey Goosey) as she is so easy going... she's also HUGE. She will be 10 mos. old in a couple of days and she weighs about #125! She is a big lover... she LIKES to bark and is very vocal. She has a big brother who is a peanut in comparison to her and they love each other the most. She has stolen our hearts!

We may never be sure what breed our Simba is. We picked him up at a local dog shelter because he was too cute to leave behind! He is about 7 months now and only 65lbs. Looking at Gordi, Lucy, Margot and company has given us a pretty good idea about his origins!

What do you think?

He looks a lot like a male Lucy. Like Margot, he always seems to want to put his paw on people (gently). He runs like Silas (see "Silas at beach" video on Myspace.

Here's looking at you, Lucy!

This is Margot.... She is always putting her paw on people. Very quiet, unless we have bears or deer in our yard. She is a great watch dog, because if she is barking, something is up.

Hey, Can anyone recommend a Breeder for a great Berenese? Also, how does the breed do in warm weather?

Anne -

Where are you located? We have a four year old male Bernese/Pyr mix named Joe. We also have his half brother (same father, different mothers), Riggo, who is a full blooded Bernese. They are very big boys, about 140-150 pounds each. We purchased them from a breeder in Howard County, Maryland, between Baltimore and DC. I don't want to post the breeder's name and address online, but if you like we can correspond off the system and I can give it to you then.

Best of luck. They are great dogs.

Here is updated an updated photo of Silas. Thanks for posting Gordi all grown up. I've never seen one as an adult and the curiosity was killing me. Silas is only 60+ pounds at almost 6 months old. I'm guessing he's staying fairly small. I'll get a better picture in a few weeks. Please keep posting yours if you have them. I am loving this.

Hi all, I just now saw the photos you all posted and I want to say that your dogs are beautiful! Lucy and my Gordi could pass as twins. He looks almost exactly like her now.
I'm in the process of adopting a 1 yr. old, female Berner (pure). I just love these dogs and will never have any other breed. This is Gordi all grown up. He turned a year old in April and is the funniest, goofiest, sweetest dogs I have ever owned. We just love him to pieces!

I just got my own "Great Bernese" and he is just a cuddly wonderful smart guy. He's 4 months old and 47#. His tail is so long it will drag on the ground if he's not holding it up. He found the pond immediately.

His name is "Silas".

We also got a Bernese/Pyrenese mix from a breeder in Missouri and he is one goofey, but wonderful pup. Harley is 4 months old and weighs in at 53 lbs. He is great with our 5 yo grandson and also loves our cats. Great family dog for those who like one that loves to lean on you and sit on your feet!

My husband and I were thinking about getting this mix. Any info you have would be much appreciated. We have a berner/golden (awesome) and two little kid 3 and 1. We are mostly wondering about temperament and excercise needs. Please help us!

Cute guy! We have a Bernese/Pyr mix as well! Her name is Greta and has the Bernese tri-color markings. She also snuggles up with us on the couch and is quite dominant over our older Bernese/Aussie mix who is much smaller. She is 12 months old and weighs about 80lbs. Check her out!

What a handsome dream pet! He's so well- proportioned, obviously healthy and most ecstatic to be with humans, and you are so very blessed to be able to afford him. After seeing him, I believe I would love to have one like him instead of my now second choice, an Akita. However, knowing that almost all dogfood is made from diseased animals, I don't think I could handle the death of another family pet unless I had enough money to cook human meat/gravy for it.

Also, our pair of house bunnies, two kitties, pair of sweet mice, young turtle and tank buddy female Beta fish, I have my hands full in daily cleanup, scrap feedings, and sharing my love ! LOL God bless you and your pet. :-)

Beautiful dog!
I have two goldens. Once I did a survey on the type of dog that matches my personality. Lol-it was a Bernese Mountain dog.

Thanks for sharing

I have always wanted a Bernese mt.Dog. Gordi is a mix of two of the best large breeds. Last summer my kitty Josie went to meow heaven at age 18 and seeing what a handsome "gent" Gordi is making me think it's time for that new pet. Had collies Sadie, Magie, Rosie. Being raised on red wing hockey.'Gori' is a perfect name ie: Gordie Howe. Enjoy that lovely dog, Sue
