How do I remove varnish on denim? It's not a fresh stain.

Varnish? What kind? Is it Varathine or Shellac, or what? If you don't know what the stain is I'd first try fingernail polish remover. The least harmful to clothes, but the weakest on stains would be the kind that says "For artificial Nails", but if you want to step it up a notch, then try one that does NOT say that on it & may say something like "Original Formula"... REGULAR formula nail polish remover is made from Acetone (Ketone's weaker, little brother) Acetone won't hurt the fabric of denim, but I don't know about the Indigo coloring, It may fade your fabric a bit.You may want to do a test area first.

* A warning: Regular (Acetone) fingernail polish will actually MELT fabrics made from "Acetate", (usually very shiny slinky fabrics)
