Make Vanilla Sugar

After you've taken the seeds out of your vanilla pod, place your pod in sugar. The vanilla flavor adds a nice touch to coffee, tea, and your baking.

(Archived Sep 17, 2010)Make Vanilla Sugar

Tip: Make Vanilla Sugar

If you buy vanilla beans, to make vanilla extract and have some left over, just put a bean or 2 in a quart jar. Fill the jar with sugar put a lid on it and let sit about a week. You will have vanilla sugar for coffee or use it in cake or cookie recipes. You won't have to use all the vanilla extract the recipe calls for.

After you use about half of the vanilla sugar refill with more sugar. It will last a long time.
