For the past year I have discovered the greatest thing! It's called Freecycle. To sign up you go to yahoo groups and type in Freecycle + your city. It will sign you up with an email group where you can get free stuff. This keeps stuff from piling up in the landfill, and recycles, so it's great for the environment. Plus it goes along with the theory that one man's junk is another man's treasure. I have received all kinds of useful things including crib sheets, knife sets, pans, etc. and given things from my garden, kiddie pools, etc. You can also sign up on freecycle.com. Enjoy!

UGH! Freecycle, in the extensive time it took me to sign up and get "approved", I had cleared out my entire garage using Craigslist's "Free Stuff" category. Interested parties came and picked up my reusables. The very same day, I tried to unsubscribe from Freecycle. 4 weeks later I still can't get off their spam-ike email list! Craigslist is easier and faster.

I have a special needs son and I'm looking for a medical twin size bed for him. He will be 7 yrs of age in September and what a blessing he is to us. His life expectancy was only the 6yrs BUT with GOD all things are possible. I'm just trying to make his stay on this earth as comfortable as possible. He sleeps on a futon couch right now cause I can't afford anything else. I am a single widow mother of 3 and soon 4. I have found that special someone but afraid that my burdens are taking a toll on our relationship. Also I need a car to help transport my son to his appointment which are in Park Ridge the car I'm driving now is a DEATH trap. I pray often on answers to my problems but there getting overwhelming at this point. . . .

I am no longer interested in receiving freecycle e-mails to
my e-mail site. How do I get my name off of the list.

Editor's Note: We are not Freecycle so cannot take you off their lists.

Look at the bottom of one of your emails. It will tell you how to unsubscribe or go to your Yahoogroups and set it to web only, that way you can look at them and are still a member if you need something later on.

I'd like to clarify that the goal of Freecycle is not to get free stuff. The goal is to keep things out of the landfill -- and these items are gifted.

I know it sounds the same as getting free stuff, but Freecycle is just one component of the greater solution to recycling, conservation, etc.

Ok, go to www.freecycle.org, type in your zip code. it will bring up a group in your city/county, if there is none, you can request to create one. this is not a freecycle group, somebody just mentioned it because its in the area of budgeting and saving money. The freecycle groups DO have a set of rules, most go off of "not posting a wanted more then once ever 1-2 weeks", just basic rules. But go to www.freecycle.org to find the group in your area if it has one, ALSO you may have to wait a couple days, to a couple weeks, the moderators are REAL people and have lives of their own so many not check emails in time. Also, the question you get asked "how did you hear about the group" isn't a trick question, its just to know how you heard about them, plain and simple.

Check out http://www.freecycle.org. This site is for people within a community to post items they wish to get rid of or they are looking for. No money is exchanged, all items are free for the taking to the first person who responds. The taker is responsible for the pick up. I am not an owner or moderator of this site, just a very satisfied member who wants to share the news.

RE: Freecycle - A way to recycle goods in your local area

I've discovered "Freecycle". The worldwide (!) Freecycle Network is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Each local group is run by a local volunteer moderator (them's good people). Membership is free. Here is the website: http://www.freecycle.org/ I've already been able to give away several items that have been cluttering up my closets or garage, but are perfectly good for someone who wants them. One person's trash can truly be another's treasure!

I don't know if this appears elsewhere on this site or not - if it does, sorry http://www.freecycle.org/ I was introduced to it just a month or so ago and I LOVE it ! I think you will too !

Join the Freecycle site in your area. I belong to 4 locally and have picked up some nice things free. http://www.freecycle.org By Betty G. (11/19/2004)

Freecycle

There's a world wide group called 'http://www.freecycle.org' It's to save items from going into the garbage and recycle instead. If you'll logon to this site then go to your section of the country and click on that, you'll get a listing of states and then groups by town/area in your state. There is no charge to join, no charge to giveaway stuff, and no charge to post a 'want' message. It's all free. The guidelines are posted on the site. It's seems to be a wonderful group and it gets a lot of activity in my area which is Northeastern, PA.

By Cynthia

Editor's Note: Although we've mentioned it before it has been a few months and it is a great resource for all areas. If there isn't a group in your area, start one. Freecycle facilitates each area listing their own group. (02/10/2005)

Checking Freecycle

I always check www.freecycle.org before getting rid of something that is still useful but that I no longer need.

I also check there first if something that I am looking for might be available for free!

By Dawn S. (03/04/2005)

Freecycle

I don't know how widespread this is, but in our area, we have several "Freecycle" groups. People post things they would normally throw away, and you can go get them - or ask for things. I wanted to paint my 2 bathrooms, living room, and doghouse, and I got 20 cans of paint for free (about 7 gallons, the others pints)!! To see if there is a Freecycle group in your area, go to Yahoo Groups and search for "Freecycle" and your city name. Or maybe you can start one! http://www.freecycle.com

By Tracy

Editor's Note: We have been advocates of Freecycle for quite a while now. I read an article today in E Magazine (Environment) which says that with 1/2 a million members Freecycle is keeping 33 tons a day out of the landfill. We highly recommend starting or joining a group in your area. (03/18/2005)

RE: Freecycle - A way to recycle goods in your local area

Hi Folks,

For those of you who requested instructions for joining a Freecycle Group in your area, go to www.freecycle.org, and click on your area... southeast, or wherever, and look for the closest group near you. You will probably find one in your own town. It's really the greatest way to get some of the things you need while helping to keep our landfills free of usable clothing, furniture and so much more.

Happy Freecycling,

RE: Freecycle - A way to recycle goods in your local area

For all people who are on a tight budget there is a site that is absolutely fantastic. It is http://www.freecycle.org Go to the location nearest you. What this site is people post articles that must be free it has everything from clothing, furniture, vehicles, toys you name it is there and best of all they are all free. They would rather see stuff recycled than have it go to the dump which lots of people do when spring cleaning and getting rid of stuff they no longer use.

Hope this helps,

Judycues from Canada (05/27/2005)

RE: Freecycle - A way to recycle goods in your local area

I just heard about this wonderful website, my daughter just moved into her own apartment, she has 2 boys age 2 & 4. She needs living room furniture such as a couch, loveseat and also a dresser for the boys room! Editor's Note: This site is not Freecycle but we highly recommend them. Go to: http://www.freecycle.org

Put in your daughter's zip code to find a local group, join it and post what you need or watch for those items. (05/03/2006)

Excellent idea wish I had thought of it. Have been bartering and exchanging goods and services with my friends for years. I hope it becomes common place and let's rid this country of selfish consumerites that are so wasteful! (05/24/2006)
