Add a Toothpick When Hard Boiling Eggs

Always add a toothpick to water first and the egg will never crack when boiling.

Well, let me tell you the toothpick DID NOT work for me! I fixed some eggs for Easter and put the toothpick in the water before they started to boil. I still had an egg to crack. So there you have the real truth. It doesn't work!

I just tried this and it works! Thanks for the great tip! My eggs will never boil without the toothpicks again. I wonder why it works?

Why does this work? Just curious...

You don't say! I have never heard of this before. So it really works? I have put vinegar and salt in the water when I boil eggs and I forgot the reason why...well I think one thing keeps the eggs from cracking and one makes them easier to peel.

How long have you been adding a toothpick to the water?
