For emergency purposes, stash a $20. or more, somewhere in your car, so only you know where it is (maybe your spouse, too), in case you leave home with no money in your wallet, purse, or are pickpocketed. This worked for me last week, when a pal invited me to go to lunch with her, when I ordered & went to pay, I forgot I didn't have any cash on me. I then remembered my stash in the car!
