RCA Satellite Receiver and Remote Control Will Not Communicate

We have an RCA satellite receiver model DRD420RE with an RCA CRK76SG3 remote. Yesterday the two had a fight and won't talk to each other unless you have them face to face within 3 inches of each other.

I've looked on several repair websites and have read from many people how terrible this receiver is (this one has worked well for 15 years, now), but no one mentions having remote difficulties.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. I don't know if the remote is the culprit or the box/receiver so I don't know which to fix or replace. It has brand new batteries, first thing we checked.

As a last resort, try Justanswer.com. They have experts of all kinds. It will cost a few dollars but only if you are satisfied with their advice. I got my CD drive fixed there. Pat
