RE: Oily Stain on Slate Table

Turn the table over and try underneath FIRST, simulating the stains if possible, but MUCH smaller for a test of a concoction in a jar lid, of 1/5 teaspoon OxyClean and 1 teaspoon of VERY hot water, applied to the dry slate stains ONLY, using an old toothbrush to scrub away, rinsing only when stains appear to be gone, which usually takes only a VERY short time. Use rags and a blow dryer between tries. If no luck after the scrubbing/rinsing/drying, try alcohol. If any lifting of color, you will not be able to use this formula on the TOP of the table, and just try using alcohol on the oily stain alone, then when all dry, try applying a mist of Endust to try to even out any lightness. Not knowing the color of your slate, it would be a judgment call on your part. I'd NOT try to attack the original stains WITHOUT trying to simulate the problem on the underside of the table FIRST. If you are fortunate enough to remove the stains, I'd apply Thompson's Water Seal to the whole slate surface to avoid this dilemma again.
Good luck. God bless and help you. : )
