Constructing A "Mannequin" For Fitting Your Own Sewing Patterns

Any ideas for a thrifty construction of a lifesize mannequin for fitting your sewing patterns to your own body measurements?

I like the plaster mold idea, but instead of using plaster to make the cast, could you use paper mache there as well? you could use the paper strips covered in glue/paste. Of course you would have to cover yourself with something before applying the strips and you would have to make it fairly thick, but does anyone think this is do-able for the cast portion?

I've seen this same technique listed on some other sewing sights for making a dress form. So, it should work.

I'm not sure it this would work.... however friends of mine have used this technique when we needed mannequins for a Halloween horror house.

They put in inexpensive leggings and long sleeved shirts. Then wrapped their entire bodies in Duct tape. (you need the clothes to prevent the tape from sticking to you.) When it was complete you cut the tape and clothes off, stuff them, and seal the cuts with more tape.

You might need a stand to hold it up, but it will be an exact replica of you.

Good luck.
