I own a 2003 BMW Mini Cooper S. I am considering changing from 17" wheels run flats and 205/45 tires to 16" wheels and performance tires. I want to cover as much of the same wheel well area as the 17" 205/45/17 tires did.

What do you suggest that would not interfere with the speedometer, or handeling? My object is to improve ride, and handling. I am considering using Minilite wheels 16", any advice?

Bill - Not exactly a "thrifty" question, but maybe someone can help. Your best source would probably be to ask those questions to your local tire seller, or a auto forum perhaps? I'm sure there are plenty of Mini enthusiast pages/groups out there.
