I have no idea why this works, just that it does. When chopping onions, hold a wooden spoon in your mouth and you never have painful, teary eyes.

i can well imagine it wud work! with a wooden spoon in your mouth it wud be a job trying not to gag or dribble, let alone cry!

I put the onions in the frig for a few hours before I need them, and have no problems with my tears.
