Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization that distributes food to those in need. You do not need to meet income requirements. You can get a box of food containing both fresh and frozen items for approx. $25.00. I have been doing this for quite some time and enjoy the quality of food and the great savings.

It would be a god send if there were a church near me willing to be the host. The nearest site is in New York city and I have no way to get there. i live in suffolk County, Long Island, and am praying someone who reads this will ask their church to host this much needed site.

Angel Food Ministries is a program that can save you lots of money on your grocery bill. They distribute Food Packages once a month. These are not free, but they are a bargain. The package contains about $50.00 worth of food for $25.00. You do not have to be of any certain income level to participate. Anyone can participate. In addition to the $25.00 Food Package, for another $25.00 you can order a meat package. Here is a list of the states that participate:

Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia

And you can find more information on their website, including what the current month's menu is. You order and pay by the deadline, and then they tell you where and when to pick up your order.

My mom does this, and they have some real good food on there (I liked the apple crisp they had last summer!) do you know how to start one up in a state? Oregon doesn't have one yet.... (08/22/2006)

There has to be someone, usually a church, that is willing and able to be a host. If your church would like to get involved, there is information on the website on how to get set up. Just click on the link in the article. Harlean from Arkansas (08/22/2006)

RE: Save On Your Grocery Bill With Angel Food Ministries

thank you for your tip and the link to Angel Food Ministries. I have heard about them in the past and have keyword searched in vain through the internet for their website so I could find out if they were available in my area. I was able to find a place for my family, my parents, and my aunts. Thank you and my God bless you and your family. AT (08/23/2006)

RE: Save On Your Grocery Bill With Angel Food Ministries

My husband and I have been getting a box every month since March. We are so overjoyed at the quality, variety and savings that Angel Food represents. We have never had this much meat/poultry in our freezer. We feel so blessed. (08/23/2006)

RE: Save On Your Grocery Bill With Angel Food Ministries

I'm embarrassed to say that I searched their site several months ago and just "didn't find or get it", seeing that it must FIRST be a purchased program by a church that participates, THEN you can try to get the food for yourself? Please clarify if this is correct. I have more than $680 in basic bills and only $625 in income, and NO money for food, gasoline or toiletries this next month. I ALSO foolishly let the triple digit heat prevent me from focusing on my grandson putting his seatbelt on, drove my son's old car which had a lapsed registration and got a $330 ticket! When the judge heard of my plight he suggested a payout over several months, which my son will somehow have to help me with. Bottom line, we truly need food, gas money, and a few other items, PLUS I have an RX that needs to be filled that's now over a month old. Wow, it gets rough when it gets hot, prices of utilities rise, local water reserves dry up, and the IRS decides to ignore letters to correct a simple error that caused them to automatically garnish my baby SS check $110 !! I plan to have another and last garage sale before the rainy season, if it ever comes, but canNOT predict if any of the old stuff I now own will find the right owner at the right price. Info about Angelfood Ministries is appreciated since it can't be ordered directly and I have no money anyway. I may qualify for some local charity help temporarity, but THEY are the ones paying for my doctor for so long and may not offer food also. (I can afford to lose 40 lbs. since I am carrying my "pantry" around with me all the time, mostly in the middle body, so I'm not in a panic yet, giving most of what food we have left to my grandson who stays with me while his dad works a new job.) He always provides, so I trust Him, all the time. God bless you. (08/25/2006)

RE: Save On Your Grocery Bill With Angel Food Ministries

I just went today & ordered 2 boxes today. I found the church on the website & I called them & they were very informative. I am going to try & see if my church wants to start doing this. Anyway, I paid for it & she said they distribute between 9am-10 am on a saturday, so you do not have to spend a lot of time waiting. She said it ususally only takes a few minutes. This church has the forms on the outside along with a drop box so you do not even have to go during church hours to pay for it. My son & his wife really need this help & I am really excited about this. (09/08/2006)

RE: Save On Your Grocery Bill With Angel Food Ministries

We ordered our first box last month and loved it. The quality of the food was outstanding. We ordered a chicken box and the chicken nuggets were better than any store bought or Fast food Chicken that we have had. It is really helping us. This month I bumped up my order to last us the month, so I only have small things to buy at the grocery store. With two small growing boys who are hungry all day every day our monthly grocery bill is going down at least 200$ a month. (09/09/2006)
