It is a paper clip bent into a crank handle, with the narrow end spread open a little to fit into the hole of a music cassette. It is used to rewind the cassette when the player isn't available. You could help your 5th grader to build a yarn winder, using the same sort of crank-handle theory. Good luck, lease let us know what works!
