Healthiest Produce for the Money

I've read a few studies and articles about fruits and vegetables that give the absolute most nutrition for the money. Here is a list of what routinely shows up. Of course, costs will vary from place to place seasonally, but overall these fruit and veggies have the absolute most nutrition for the money per ounce.

  • Bananas
  • Cantaloupe
  • Grapefruit
  • Kiwi
  • Oranges
  • Peaches
  • Plums
  • Strawberries

  • Brussels sprouts
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Collard greens
  • Mustard greens
  • Spinach
  • Turnip greens

Oranges and Bananas have too much potassium for those with kidney problems and too many greens spinach etc. are not good to people taking some heart medication.

The Swan, you make a great point! I posted this information assuming that most people have general good health and/or that those with special health problems would already know what they can or can't eat. But then again not all doctors explain special needs/details to their patients with issues and not all people with health issues research about the details of their particular health problems :-( Thank you for the good heads up and thank you so much for sharing it!
