i have 10 bamboo plants in my 30 gallon and my cichlids seem to love them.

We had a betta who did just fine with live bamboo in his bowl - I don't think it would cause any problems in a tank.

You could always visit, or call, a local aquarium store, or a pet store that sells fish and aquariums.

My sister put one in with her blue fish (can't remember whaat you call them!) and he seems to be getting along fine with it. Good luck and God bless you.
