We are planning a move to the Galveston area. We want a house on the water. We will consider areas around Galveston as along as there is water. I would love to have input from people already living there and/or tips for living on the coast.
Thanks, "Looking forward to being on the coast"

Are you prepared for higher costs of insurance & property taxes for waterfront properties? Waterfront property sure sounds good, but these 2 items keep alot of folks from being there. Would it be so bad to live a couple of blocks or miles away. The different in cost might seem better, take all costs into consideration.

Someone told me not to retire in Galveston proper because the traffic is unbelievably horrible during tourist season. The restaurants all have waits for more than an hour just to be seated and it's crowded as can be.

I lived in Clear Lake, southside of Houston, by JSC. A word of caution; if you haven't been to Galveston, be aware that there is only one bridge to the island. During the last Hurricane evacuation in 2005, it was a disaster. Traffic was jammed on the mainland and Galveston folks had to join at the back of the line. Not meant to scare you, just telling it like it is. Ron
