I just received a huge bag of fleece for free (I made cat and dog toys at home for extra income). Although, I'm beyond grateful to the person who gave it to me, she neglected to tell me she smokes... a lot! The fleece is saturated with the smell of smoke. I need a safe way to clean/get rid of the fleece smell without ruining the fleece itself. I generally don't wash the fleece because it pills.

Thanks so much in advance for any help you guys can offer!

I would crumble a bunch of newspapers in a big garbage bag and put the fleece in on top and add more crumbled up papers on top. Close the bag and give it a coupole of days. Open bag and discard newspaper. This should take care of eliminating the odor. : )

I would try washing in vinegar or using vinegar in the rinse.

If the fleece is for pet toys, I would NOT use Fabreeze.. Try putting it in the dryer with a fabric softener square. You might even use two squares

Washing the fleeces in a eucalyptus wash should help, then peg them outside somewhere in the sun and the wind, this also helps to fluff them up.

If possible, hang it on a clothes line like an upside down U in the full sun for days and days....!

I have used Fabreeze to get the smoke smell out of used articles including books.

I simply spray and fan the pages of the book at the same time.

I'm alergic to smoke so I'm hypersensitive. Fabreeze works.
