How many cups are in a pound of brown sugar?

So if you go by what Chef4U said you could measure a cup of lead and it would only weigh 8 oz? I think it makes a difference what your measuring. A cup of feathers wouldn't weigh the same as the lead but they would still be a cup full. Each ingredient has different mass.

16 oz = 1# 8 oz. = 1 cup

Granulated 2 1/4 cups = 1 lb. cube sugar 96 to 100 = 1 lb. Brown sugar (packed) 2 3/4 cups = 1 lb. Sifted powdered 3 1/2 cups = 1 lb.

I looked in a cook book and it says there is 2 1/2 cups in a pound of brown sugar.
