Florida, right? He could be Santa building his "new" north pole with a giant A/C unit blowing out snow. Just a blower of some sort behind the A/C with white confetti.

What about elves being couch potatoes in front of the TV in summer clothes? An air conditioning unit could be close by. Meanwhile, your friend could be pretending to build something like a bar for their 'man cave'.
