RE: Paint Technique To Lighten a Dark Room Post by pinellas (12) | (09/12/2005) Contact You can make a 'wash' from white or off-white latex paint, thinned w/ water to a milky consistency.Wear gloves & use a rag or big sponge to wipe the wash over the painted walls in a circular motion - just like you were washing the walls.Start @ the top & work your way down to avoid drips.You just kind of rub it in - sort of like doing a wood stain. This won't give a perfectly smooth result - it resembles smoke or mist. If there is woodwork, paint that white, or a light color.
