Antique Mirror Finish |
|
|
Does anyone know an easy way to make an antique mirror? Either by treating a regular mirror to make it look old or by starting with a plain piece of glass?
I bought a kit called 'Looking Glass', but it creates a 'new' looking mirror finish, and no instructions about making the finish look old.
Any ideas? Claudia

You can use a water based alkaline solution to create an antique affect. This is sold in kit form at www.vandykes.com.

Look on HGTV.com's website - www.hgtv.com. You can search for the topic in their search bar. I know for sure that one of their shows "Sensibly Sheick (sp) had this featured on one of thier shows. Good Luck!

I saw Martha Stewart make a faux-antique mirror on her show using silver leaf and a piece of glass. Instructions can be found at marthastewart.com by searching under "silver leaf mirror." The whole process looked relatively simple, and the end result looked like a genuine antique mirror. Good luck!
