Cream butter and sugar. Add flour, cinnamon, and egg yolk. Mix by hand. Pat dough into ungreased cookie sheet, about 1/4 inch thick. Press pecans into dough. Beat egg white and spread over dough. Bake at 300 degrees F for 1 hour. Cut into strips while warm.
This sounds like Jan Hagel, a Dutch cookie, that is made the same way except on spreads the slightly beaten egg white on the dough and then presses sliced almonds into it before baking.

an hour seems to be an awful long time to bake these

I tried these this morning and it just DIDN'T work out well at all. They were burnt after 20 minutes of being in the oven. I took them out a half hour later and the bottoms were burnt and I did use a non stick cookie sheet.What could have went so wrong?
