hydrogen peroxide is wonderful for combating stains. I have gotten every kind of weird stain out of things, and it has not made the underlying colour worse. I would do a small test and see if it works and if it makes your carpet still look good.
I have used Soft Scrub without bleach to remove several vomit stains that happened immediately after my daughter ate too many cherries. Not a trace left.
