Campho-Phenique and Lysine for Cold Sores

I have successfully been using a simple and small application of Campho-Phenique gel mixed with a few granules from an L-Lysine capsule when, and now infrequently, that I have the first indication of a cold sore/fever blister. You can experience healing effects overnight.

It has substantially reduced the frequency as well as remarkably shortened the duration of the lesion. I'm trying to remember the last time I had a sore. I used to have them regularly even though I was taking L-Lysine orally.

My daughter told me that L-Lysine used regularly had adverse effects. As I was already using the Campho-Phenique gel, I added the L-Lysine, and voila! It worked, better than I imagined.

I have suffered from cold sores since I was a child. I had tried everything. There was a time when I had a sore somewhere on my lips for over a year, one would heal and another would pop up. Then over 30 years ago, I developed an ulcer. Tagmet was prescribed and I did not have a cold sore during those months. My doc researched it, but could find nothing on Tagmet helping.

However, he prescribed it for me, and whenever I feel a tingle I take 2, twice the first day then 1 twice a day for the next 4 - 5 days and blisters never develop. About 10 years ago I mentioned this to my current doc, and he told me there is a white paper on the use of Tagmet for cold sores. No other antacid treatment will work, it must be Tagmet. Hope this helps you.

My Dr had me take Lysine the first time I had an outbreak of shingles. He Sid it calmed the nerve endings. Seemed to work with no side effects.

The best thing I have found that gets rid of my cold sores is Silvercillin. My pharmacy has it. I just spray once a day on the infected area and it dries up the sore.
