DIY Ear Saver and Mask Extender - view from the back These straps for your masks are great for many reasons. They relieve heavy strain on your ears from the mask loops pulling on them. They make your masks fit your face much better. They are also great for a little colour pop, working as accessories to potentially match with your outfits. :) I have made these in many colours and styles, using different fabrics and button shapes. I live in an extremely high COVID-19 rate area and always have my mask on.

I like using felt because it has a bit of stretch to it while remaining very sturdy. I also love that they come in a variety of vibrant colours.

Total Time: 10 minutes

Yield: 1 strap

Supplies:

1 piece of felt
scissors
2 buttons
needle and thread

Steps:

Put on your mask and pull on the straps to see where good endpoints would be for your strap. 3.5 inches was perfect for mine.

Sew a button on the end of the strap, just the same as you would put a button on a shirt or trousers. Thread through the felt and through the holes of the button several times, then wrap the thread under the button several times. Pull the needle and thread through the underside of the felt, then knot it a few times.

Repeat with the other button on the other end of the strap.

Put your mask on as usual, then hold the strap behind your head. Pull on the straps, one at a time, and secure around each button.
