finished craftSummer is the perfect time to do some crafts and to have some family fun. Using some simple craft materials let your kids make this sea aquarium to remind them of their beach holiday. A really fun project, and really fast too! Ideal for those little minds that cannot concentrate for long periods on end.

Total Time: 15 minutes

Yield: one aquarium

Supplies:

  • printout of provided pattern sheet
  • standard white economy paper plate
  • thick blue crayon
  • one 6mm thick green pipe cleaner
  • one 10mm wiggle eye
  • half a cup of sea sand
  • five small sea stars
  • colored felt tip pens
  • standard scissors
  • quick-drying craft glue (such as Bostik Clear)
  • Heritage Spray-on Contact Glue
  • hair dryer
  • Optional: Pilot silver marker pen

Steps:

  1. Heat small sections of the plate with the hairdryer and use the crayon to color the plate blue. The heat of the hairdryer will make the crayon melt, so that will look as if you are painting with the crayon.
  2. Spray the bottom part of the plate with the contact glue and while the glue is still wet, sprinkle sand over the glue. Shake off any excess sand and allow to dry thoroughly.

  7. Glue the wiggle eye in place.
  8. Glue the fish to the plate.
  9. Cut sections from the pipe cleaner and glue these to the plate to make sea weed.

My daughter insists that we should have pet fishes, but we're not quite ready for a fish tank, so this paper aquarium will do! She had a fun time making this and this would make a nice indoor craft/activity to do.

Afterwards, you can hang this up on the wall and it'll be a paper aquarium instead.
