Making a Pot O' Gold Planter

Pot O' Gold Planter - pot on deck railThis is cute little planter you can use for your real plants, fake plants, or even fill with candy to hand out. It's super easy to make and so cheerful for St. Patrick's Day!


Total Time: 45 minutes

Yield: 1 planter


  • 1 terracotta pot
  • black acrylic paint
  • paintbrush
  • pipe cleaners in rainbow colours
  • scissors
  • hot glue gun with glue
  • mini gold pom-pom balls
Pot O' Gold Planter - supplies


  1. Paint the pot black and allow to dry.
  2. Pot O' Gold Planter - paint the pot black and allow to dry
  3. Decide how big of a rainbow you want by inserting a bent pipe cleaner into the pot. Cut them at desired length.
  4. Pot O' Gold Planter - cut pipe cleaners to length
  5. When the pot is dry, add a blob of hot glue to the inside lip.
  6. Pot O' Gold Planter - when paint dry add a blob of hot glue to inside lip

  7. Affix the end of the pipe cleaners to the glue in rainbow order, gluing the other ends to the other side of the inside of the pot.
  8. Pot O' Gold Planter - stick the pipe cleaners to the glue in rainbow order, repeat on the other side
  9. Fill with whatever you desire, then add the gold pom-poms on top.
  10. Pot O' Gold Planter - add treat and then top with the gold pom poms
  11. I'm giving mine away so I filled it with candy, then pushed in an artificial green plant so it looks like it's sprouting. So cute!
