Monkey Bread Recipe


  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 packages. yeast
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup potato water*
  • 6 cup flour
  • melted butter
  • cinnamon and sugar
  • Parmesan cheese and parsley flakes


Heat milk, cooking oil and sugar and cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in water. Combine milk and yeast mixtures. Add eggs, salt and potato water. Add flour and mix well. Turn into greased bowl and grease top. Cover with tea towel and let rise in warm place. To make into monkey bread loaf, punch dough down, roll in flour, pinch off pieces and roll into 1 1/2 inch oblong shapes. Dip each into melted butter, or melted butter and cinnamon and sugar, or melted butter and Parmesan cheese and parsley flakes. Lay in greased and floured ring mole or bundt pan as you would stack bricks. Let rise and bake at 350 degrees F for 30-45 minutes or until brown.


*Note: Peel and cube 1 potato and cook until very soft in 1 1/4 cups water. Mash potato in the water.
