Recycle old t-shirts into a colorful memory quilt.

Supplies:
- 15 t-shirts
- backing fabric
- yarn
- safety pins
- large eye needle
- thread
- scissors
- sewing machine
- square template
Steps:
- Cut each t-shirt along the side seam, cutting out the arms. Lay the pieces flat. Pin a square template, depending on how big you want the squares, on top. My template is made out of some clear plastic I had. That way, when I pinned it onto the t-shirt I could see the placement so I could center the design on the t-shirt within the square. Cut out a square from both the front and the back of the t-shirt. You should have 30 squares. They will be used to make a quilt five squares wide by six squares long.
- Lay out a design. Start pinning the edges of the t-shirts together, row by row. Sew. After all of the rows are sewn, begin attaching the rows together. Pin and sew until all the rows are sewn together.
- Measure the finished length and width to determine what size piece of fabric you will need to purchase for a backing. Place the quilt top on the bottom fabric. Pin with safety pins starting at the top and working your way down. Using yarn, thread a double strand of yarn, into the eye of a large needle. Tie a square knot in the corners of each square to hold the quilt layers in place and avoiding it from bulking.
- When done, you are ready to hem. Because I used a knit backing and the t-shirts are knit, I don't worry about doing a finished hem and it looks just fine and is much more simple. Sew about l/2" from the edge all the way around the quilt. Remove safety pins and the quilt is complete.
