Value of an 1898 Quilt?

An old quilt with appliqué of red flowers and diamond shaped leaves on white background.1898 is stitched in white on the side. I have tried to look up the patter, but I haven't had luck. I even put it through Google Lens and I haven't seen anything comparable. It looks hand stitched and there is also a floral pattern stitched in the white material. It's absolutely beautiful. Overall, it is in great condition. There is some discoloration and fading of the green in areas, but that seems to be the only issue. I would love to find out how much this could be worth. It is 94x64 inches in total and the squares are 14inches each. Thank you!

This is lovely, most likely a whig rose interpretation. I am not convinced it is from 1898 based on the vibrant colors and very nice condition. You will need an expert to examine the threads and fabric. My guess is it is a reproduction of the one of the many variations on this theme...my guess is from the 1960s or 1970s, but the theme has come around several times!

Once someone can confirm the age, I can offer you tips on value and how to sell. It is very nice! Please post back with what you learn!!

Thank you so much for your response! My grandmother got it from her mother in-laws house in the 40s I believe? The stitch is hard to see but it has been dated 1898. I will definitely be doing more research

I have zoomed in and sharpened the image so you can see the date

Please post back with your findings! This is so lovely. I hope yours is truly from the 1800s. I don't give them a lot of stock because I used to be an avid cross-stitcher when I was young, and both cross stitch patterns and quilting patterns often have a date in the pattern that is when it originated not when it was actually done.

Looking forward to hearing more about your piece!! Thanks again for sharing!

This Quilt needs the attention of a appraiser. It is truly unique and seems one of a kind. There is one similar on ebay - www.ebay.com/.../11413957290?_trkparms=aid.

It is a beautiful quilt and if authentic 1898 then it may be valuable.
I also have my doubts - hopefully you can find more information from family as provenance is how you date items like this unless you can have it appraised in person.

Appraisers know exactly what to look for when dating items where just lay people like us have no clue and definitely cannot tell from pictures.

You might try getting information from one of these sites but be sure to include any information you have on where it was located (area) as this could help also.

Hi There,

Your quilt is so beautiful! I saw some quilts going for over $200.00 on e-bay. Your quilt should even bring in more! I would not sell it for under $300.00.

Because these beautiful old quilts are so desirable it is important to have them appraised. Yours is in very good shape and the stitching on it is very good. That means it is tiny and consistent. The sign of an experienced quilter. If it is authentic it will be quite valuable. Considerably more than $200.00. Good luck. Let us know what you find out.
