the Wilmington area is very interesting historically. Pirates were a very big deal there and WIlmington itself is the source of many interesting historical tidbits. It was one of the only towns that in defiance decided to secede and set up a communal experiment. Didn't last long but it just goes to show the spirit of the place! It is obviously great for fishing, swimming, boating, and all the usual sorts of beach activities. Lots of great eateries as well, and lots of pirate museums. Also incredibly beautiful
