Coffee Can Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

Combine whole wheat flour and yeast in saucepan. Add 1/2 cup water and next 4 ingredients. Warm slightly over low heat, mixing well. Beat in eggs. Add all-purpose flour, mixing well. Batter will be lumpy. Grease 2 one-pound coffee cans, placing half of batter in each. Let rise covered with plastic lids in warm place to 1 inch from top of can. Bake, uncovered, at 375 degrees F for 35-40 minutes.

Sweet Coffee Can Bread

A fun way to make bread! The kids will enjoy helping.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup ground almonds
  • 1/2 cup chopped raisins
  • 2 eggs, beaten slightly
  • 2 (1 lb.) coffee cans

Directions:

  1. Mix 2 cups flour and yeast.
  2. Stir water, milk, shortening, sugar, and salt over low heat until butter melts. Cool to lukewarm.
  3. Add to flour and yeast.
  4. Add remaining flour and ingredients. Dough will be stiff.

  5. Knead on flour board.
  6. Grease coffee cans with oil.
  7. Divide dough in half and place in cans.
  8. Cover cans with plastic lids. Let rise to almost full. Remove lids.
  9. Bake at 375 degrees F for 35 minutes.

Servings: 2 coffee cans (1lb. size)
Prep Time: 15-20 Minutes
Cooking Time: 35 Minutes
