Permanent Marker on a Wood Floor

How can I remove magic marker from my unfinished wood floor? I have tried everything from the Magic Eraser to WD40 with no luck. It's blue marker and a big mess and I am desperate before I have to sand down the floor and start over.

Try getting a little bottle of paint thinner at a hobby supply store. Rub it on with a cotton ball and wipe away quickly with a paper towel. This works on permanent Sharpies that we use to personalize Xmas ornaments where I work. (12/29/2006)

Have you tried alcohol? I know that it takes off sticky stuff on mirrors and glass, perhaps it will work on this too.

Good luck! (12/29/2006)

I read on line to use an eraser. I tried it and it actually took out black sharpie marker off of my hardwood floor. I was skeptical myself until I tried it and to my amazement it actually worked. I would suggest to try it before any paint thinner or spray of any kind. (12/08/2007)
