Protecting Furniture Under a Fish Tank

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 899 Posts

tank on furnitureWe have a few small fish tanks at our house. I have them sitting on top of wooden furniture, so I needed to find a way to protect the wood from any splashes or dribbles that might happen.

I went to the thrift store and purchased microwave turntables. They come in a variety of sizes and are usually under $5.00. They are perfect for small tanks and because they are raised up on little feet you can easily stick a paper towel underneath to soak up a drip if necessary.

Excellent thinking because so little nubs of feet will allow air to get under the plate so trapped humidity doesn't wind up ruining the wood instead. I have glass tops on wood furniture with little small plastic discs under each corner for that reason.
