What Is This Houseplant? - scraggly potted plant with a couple of leaves at the tops of multiple stemsDoes anyone know what I have here? I want to know how to treat it better.

It's hard to tell because it's in poor condition and has few leaves. Take it to any garden center or cooperative extension center. They have helped me several times.

Hey thanks for trying at least. I'll keep it watered and I put it in a light cycle in a warm spot in the house. If it survives I'll take more pictures.

Mom from Missouri I will look at avacado trees. Thanks for the clue. I hope I can figure out what it needs to thrive. I'm trying to save its life for a friend.

It resembles a rubber plant to me but it is difficult to identify without a closeup of the leaves.
Maybe you could try looking at some of these photos:

It's alive!! I was going to toss it and use the pot for something else but my girlfriend had too much hope for the plant which she named cool-dude. It is growing new leaves and it's alive!!! I will take pictures when I get home.

This looks like a ficus species. People often call them rubber trees/plants.
