Does anyone know how to tile around a bathtub and toilet? We are doing it all ourselves and never have done tiling period! We're handy, just need to know the secret. We have a wet saw we can use just don't know how to make round edges. Thanks!

You make the curves using a tool called a nipper. Go to the home center store or a tile store nearest you and talk with the folks at the store. They will be more than happy to explain the proceedure. Also at the home center they have books detailing how to lay and cut tile. The books are usually near the check out counters.

Basically, you get close and it is kinda jagged. So then you use the wet saw to "smooth out" the differences in height. Practice on some scrap pieces of tile. And do not push into the blade hard when moving along the "circle" radius.
We went to one of the classes at Home Depot. It was all about installing ceramic tile.
Go to your local library and get some books on tiling. This is a great place to start reading up on home remodeling, and best of all its free.
We did this and we got some books and did a little reading first. We did not have any experience but it turned out great and help a couple of other people.

There is also a series of books called Sunset. They have one on tiling. They can be purchased at Home Depot and several bookstores.
It's best to take up the toilet and tile under it- make sure it's level! If you tile around the toilet and later on need to get a new toilet, you may have a problem with the new one fitting.
As other said, the correct way is to remove the toilet completely. My husband help me remove the toilet and the old flooring and put the backer board on the floor with the screws. Then you put a specific type of cement down made for holding tiles down with a special trowel with cut edges (can't remember the name, but you buy it in the isle with the tiles) and place the tiles in it with markers between them making sure they are level and using a wooden mallet and leveling board to level them...check with a level.
Go to the library, get the books and the video. Watch them, then watch them again. Have them handy when you are working just in case you need the reference.
