Baking Powder Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk

Directions

Sift dry ingredients together into bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Add milk, stirring until just mixed. Knead lightly, on floured surface, 6-8 times. Pat out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with floured cutter, placing 1/2 inch apart on baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees F for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Yield: 10 biscuits.

Baking Powder Biscuits

So easy to make and the ingredients are things most of us keep on hand all the time. Very good, fluffy, warm biscuits!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup milk

Directions:

Sift flour, salt, baking powder, cream of tartar and sugar; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk all at once. Stir until dough follows fork around in the bowl. Pat or roll 1/2 inch thick; cut with a biscuit cutter. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes.

Servings: about 2 doz. biscuits
Prep Time: 15-20 Minutes
Cooking Time: 45 Minutes

Never Fail Baking Powder Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 egg, unbeaten
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 2/3 cup milk

Directions

Sift together flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, salt and sugar. Cut in margarine. Add egg and milk. Knead for 5 minutes. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter. Bake for 10 minutes at 450 degrees F.
