Bluish Black Flying Insects on My Roof |
|
|
On the roof of my home I thought I had an infestation of bees. Upon closer examination I don't know what these insects are.
These are my observations:
They can fly They are an inch in length They are a bluish, black in colour I have seen them around the roof of my house only.
This could also be helpful. My home is situated about a ten minute walk from a very large outlet of running creek water.
I really want to take care of the problem myself and not pay a pest control company to fix the problem. Does anyone know what I am dealing with?

I have those too. Looks like they made a nest in my overhang by my patio door. What are they and how do we get rid of them? They swoop down towards you as if warning to keep away. I would really like to enjoy my backyard without screaming and dashing into the house all the time! My roof is new by the way, so it can't be the roof.

I think they are called "spider wasps" go to www.pestcontrolcanada.com They will have pictures. I think the bluish wasp are quite harmless unless you disturb their nest. They most often are solitary wasps. They are carnivores. They eat spiders. Often time taking over the spiders' own home and eats him/her. From I have read about them , they are not that aggressive toward humans.

We have insects like that around here. I think they may be blue wasps. Yes, they can sting! They like to build nests in attics, garages, under the edge of roofs etc. I'd buy a can or two of wasp spray and take good aim and fire away!

They sound pretty. Are they dragonflies?
Is water puddling on your roof? If so, it's probably time to re-do your roof.
