Draining Canned Tomatoes

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 181 Posts

Instead of draining tomatoes and other canned foods in a strainer, which I then have to wash, I punch a hole in the top of the can with a church-key can opener. It's easy and efficient.

No need to dirty the church-key can opener. Since you have to open the can anyway, use the regular can opener. Proceed to open the can as normal but only partially open it. This opening will depend on what is in the can. Tilt can on an angle and drain the partially opened can upside down in the sink. I usually set it in the clean drain and let it empty itself. When drained, continue to completely open the entire can using the can opener.
