Certain things will end up costing you more in the long run if you buy generic. Stay away from paper towels and toilet paper. You will use more, because the sheets are thinner, and end up costing you more than a name brand.

I've found that with buying generic bleach & vinegar you just can't go wrong. When buying generic canned veggies, I've found stems, stalks, pieces of husk, seeds, etc. in them. I didn't care for the generic paper products, either. There's only a few things that I still buy generic.
