Here's a great energy saver. When you are near the end of the baking time, turn the oven off and keep the door closed. The heat will stay the same long enough to finish baking your dish, and you'll save energy

Keep the oven open after cooking/baking to warm the room while it is cooling off.

This also works when cooking vegetables for a stew. I often cut up my potatos, onions and carrots, start them cooking with a little oil, add water and bring to a boil, then turn it off and leave the cover of the pan on (for about 10 minutes). Even if they are not completely cooked by that amount of heat, they will be partially cooked and you can turn on the heat again to finish them.
