Copycat: Onion Straws

Those Onion Straws at places like Ruby Tuesdays can be expensive. Why not make your own? You need ONLY THREE INGREDIENTS!

Ingredients

  • Onions (1 med onion = MAYBE 1 serving)
  • All purpose flour
  • Hot oil

Directions

All you have to do is slice the onion thinly any way you like. Dust with flour. I usually put the onion in a bag with a couple of tablespoons of flour and SHAKE. Then deep fry these pieces until they turn crispy brown. It will take about 10 minutes depending on the amount and heat of your oil. You need to watch them. They can easily turn from brown to burnt in a matter of seconds.

I sometimes sprinkle them on salads in place of croutons.

The extra bonus is that you a fragrant onion oil to use to cook meats and other vegetables when you are finished!

Mmmmm, yummy and sounds easy. I was using French's onions in a can. But fresh made sounds yummier. Thanks
