Musty Smells on Wool?

I recently bought a lot of wool fabric at auction on ebay, it was mentioned that the fabric was rescued from a wet basement, but i can't remember what method my grandmother used for removing this odor from wool. These are uncut pieces for sewing, can anyone help? - Ebay Addict

try a mixture of white vinegar and water 2/3 water, 1/3 vinegar and spray a mist on the fabric while airing it in fresh air simultaneously - repeat the mist spray for a few days.

I LOOOVE eBay too! :)
Perhaps just spreading the wool out in the sunlight on a breezy, dry day would air it out. Molds can be killed by sunlight, so I would think mildew would, too. Depends on what you plan on using the wool for, but why put a lot of time into a project if the materials aren't clean & ready, right? So, worst case scenario, take it to a drycleaner, then you would be on the safe side, as some people are pretty sensitive to molds. I heard Febreeze isn't good to use around pets!

I bought two antique quilts that had that musty smell. I just sprayed both sides of them with Fabreze and let them dry. No more smell. :)
