When moving, the first piece of furniture you want to move into your new house are the beds. Place them in the designated bedrooms, put them together, and make them up. At the end of the day, all you want to think about is a shower, food, and a good night's rest. Other things can wait until the next day. This way you will not have to sleep on the floor or groan about having to make beds when you are so tired. This is very important if you are moving and have children.
This is such a good piece of advice! When our family moved four years ago, we had packed the beds first in the moving truck, they were all the way up by the cab. We had to go out and buy aerobeds for sleeping on until we could get to them!
Great tip on setting the beds up first! Wish we had done that on our recent move. Reading 'shower' in this tip reminded me that we did pack a suitcase with bathroom and medicine cabinet essentials including linens and sleepware. It was nice not to have to dig for those after a full day of moving!
The way to remember this is to have the beds the last thing on the truck and then they are the first thing off. Then you will remember as they get into the room make them. It also makes it seem more like home for the young kids who are a bit thrown off by the move.
Beds in first is a necessity! One hint to go along with that is to pack the bed into the van or truck LAST! That way it's the last thing packed up and the first thing unpacked.
Another good tip is to pack the rest of the van or truck so that the first furniture out (after the beds!) goes in the furthest away rooms, and the last of the furniture unpacked goes in the nearest rooms. That way you're not trying to squeeze furniture through already furnished rooms.
Great idea Linda. We are stationed in Turkey with the Air Force and have moved eight times to five countries. At the end of a moving day, a rock slab looks good! Thanks for sharing your idea. Sharon
