Installing Sand for a Pool Base

How much Styrofoam do I need to buy for an 18 foot round pool? Great idea!

Well, if you are looking for the area of the 18 foot circle the formula is pi times radius squared.
That would be 3.14 times 9 feet squared. Or 3.14 times 81 or 254.34 square feet. So you could round it up to 255 square feet. If the sheets of styrofoam are 4 by 8 feet you will need 8 sheets.

We have a pool that the sides go up as we fill with water. We need to know how much sand is needed for a 16 x 16 foot area. But, since sand is expensive, is there a cheaper method to provide a soft, protective barrier for the pool base?
